Infrastructure Week sat down with leaders in the water sector to understand what investing in water infrastructure specifically can do for a community. We heard about two very different takes on the multiple benefits and return on investment from two different utility heads: Karen Pallansch, CEO of AlexRenew and Tony Parrott, Executive Director, Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District.
AlexRenew is taking an exposed concrete-lined stormwater “stream” and returning it to its natural habitat: a real stream, with natural bio diversity and native plants lining the banks of the stream.
Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District, like many utilities across the country, is making big investments into capital projects. Tony shares how those dollars support local economies, and with the right workforce development plan, utilities can also focus on hiring locally.
These are just a few examples of how investing in water can reap multiple benefits. Read our report, The Economic Benefits of Investing in Water Infrastructure, for more information.
