February 29 – March 1, 2024

Miami, Florida

Our One Water Leadership Institutes are an opportunity reserved for US Water Alliance members to learn from sector-wide leaders, gain in-depth knowledge, and put new skills into practice alongside peers from across the country. The first US Water Alliance One Water Leadership Institute of 2024 will be co-hosted with the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department on February 29 and March 1, focusing on the topic of Climate Action.

The water sector is at the forefront of the climate crisis. Intense storms, rising sea levels, and more frequent droughts affect water supplies, damage infrastructure, and jeopardize essential water and sanitation services. Without urgent, collective action to make deep reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, these effects will worsen and require more complex and costly responses. Given that freshwater sources (along with water treatment and distribution) account for about 10% of global GHG emissions, our sector has an opportunity to employ watershed scale thinking, make progress toward climate solutions, and hasten the transition to net zero.

US Water Alliance members are advancing the One Water movement—a transformative idea that envisions managing all water in an integrated, inclusive, and sustainable manner. At this Institute, US Water Alliance members will hone their One Water Change Leadership capacities and apply these principles to their climate action journey. Participants will also learn how utilities can set and prioritize mitigation strategies and help reach the ambitious climate goals of our communities through One Water approaches such as nature-based solutions, energy recovery, and resource circularity. Further, participants will explore Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department’s initiatives to reduce carbon pollution, advance climate equity, and bolster resilience against climate disruptions—achieved through partnerships and innovative One Water solutions.

Institute registration is only available for US Water Alliance members. If you are a US Water Alliance member and did not receive an email to register, please reach out to ewilder@uswateralliance.org.
