Sara Leonard

Sara Leonard is the Communications Manager for the US Water Alliance, a national nonprofit organization advancing policies and programs that build a sustainable water future for all. She manages external communications channels, amplifying the organization’s programs and projects through stakeholder engagement and public education. Prior to joining the Alliance, Sara was a Communications Project Lead with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, where she developed communications deliverables to promote bioenergy research and development. Before that, Sara served as the Marketing and Communications Director for the Colorado Water Conservation Board – the water policy agency within the state’s Department of Natural Resources. There, she developed and led a state communications strategy around conserving and protecting water for future generations in Colorado, including public affairs and media relations focused on Colorado River matters. She has a master’s in strategic communication from American University and a bachelor’s in environmental policy from the University of Colorado Boulder. Outside of work, Sara enjoys hiking, biking, skiing (out west when possible), and spending time with her family at home in Washington, DC.
