Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta is a donor organization focused on distributing grants to promising nonprofits, as well as providing them with tools and resources to effectively manage internal affairs and create high-performing programs.
The Community Foundation is a strong believer in building upon grassroots ideas that empower community members to improve their neighborhoods. The Foundation also supports educational initiatives to advance early childhood and youth development programming, individual student support and scholarships, parent involvement, employment preparation, and training. In addition, the Foundation invests in public health, art and culture, civic engagement, and place- and space-based research, all with a strong focus on social equity.
The Grants to Green program is a unique initiative to help nonprofits not only green their own operations, but to cut their costs and save operating dollars. Grants to Green encourages nonprofits to renovate, expand, or construct buildings that are energy and water efficient. The money saved in utility bills can then go towards the nonprofit’s own programs and initiatives.
The program is a collaboration between the Foundation, the Kendeda Fund, and Southface. Grants to Green has since been replicated in Iowa and Maine, and now saves over $1 million annually in utility costs across 195 different nonprofits.
