No substance is more essential to life than water. Despite its necessity, 17% of US households are struggling to afford their water bills. At the same time, the costs of providing safe, reliable service continue to rise as pollution, aging infrastructure, and climate risks and impacts take their toll on water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. It is time to re-envision how the water sector can achieve both affordable water and resilient systems. While they can’t do it alone, local One Water leaders are stepping up to innovate around the issue of unaffordable water bills and pushing past business-as-usual to safeguard water access and affordability. In this webinar, Kishia Powell, CEO of WSSC Water, will shed light on how affordable water bills contribute to communities’ public and economic health and offer steps that utility, community, and policy leaders can take to achieve resilient water systems at affordable rates.
