It’s not every day that a high school lesson plan corresponds with on-the-job training.
However, seven graphic design students at Pinelands Regional High School experienced exactly that with their first class assignment of this school year.
Every year, Lee Anne LeCouter’s third-year graphic design students form a quasi-marketing agency – called “The Graphic Cats” – that produces materials for different school groups throughout the year.
But LeCouter threw this year’s class a curve ball.
“On the first day of school I told them we have a huge job for an outside client, and it starts tomorrow,” LeCouter said.
New Jersey American Water tasked the class to create memes to correspond with the Value of Water Coalition’s national “Imagine A Day Without Water” campaign, which is an educational effort to raise awareness of, and build public support for, investment in water.
