Los Angeles One Water Delegation Reflects on One Water Summit 2017
The Los Angeles One Water Delegation left the 2017 One Water Summit invigorated not only by the opportunities to share expertise and innovative ideas with professionals from around the nation, but also by the enthusiasm of our diverse group of professionals to return to LA and continue our path of collaboration toward a sustainable and resilient water future. The timing is particularly appropriate, as our community works to complete the One Water LA 2040 Plan which sets a vision and roadmap for managing water in a more efficient, cost effective, and sustainable manner while also identifying ways for City departments and regional agencies to integrate their water management strategies. Similar to the goals of the One Water Summit and U.S. Water Alliance, One Water LA depends on close collaboration between City departments to break down the traditional institutional barriers between the management of drinking water, wastewater, recycled water, runoff and stormwater. In LA, this is not only a goal, it is becoming a reality with tangible projects now underway and in planning. The One Water Summit supports us all in creating our new water futures and we look forward to the next opportunities to get together. In the meantime, we will continue to build on the relationships formed as we power forward to make the One Water Vision a lasting reality, and, who knows? We may even have the opportunity to share LA’s One Water with the world when the Olympics come to town!
